Our goal at Ascend is to stabilize the child in both home and school using an integrated, multidisciplinary program of treatment based on documented clinical effectiveness. On a positive note, a complete program of integrated, multi-disciplinary treatment has been shown in clinical data to effectively and dramatically reduce the aggression, stealing, lying, conflict-seeking behaviors, and increases the ability of the child to attach and feel love. There are several areas that impact the child's stabilization dramatically, and failure to resolve any one area can prompt the child to act out in the other areas. A united and coordinated establishment of behavioral rewards and limits is absolutely necessary.

1. Continued Play Therapy and Behavioral Therapy to address unresolved trauma and symptoms of Reactive Attachment Disorder, anger management.

2. Nutritional supplementation and changes in diet can assist in stabilizing mood, increasing positive energy, and decreasing hyperactive energy.

3. Medication Monitoring by a Pediatric Psychiatrist or Neurologist may be necessary to address cyclical symptoms of rage, separation anxiety, conflict-driven behavior.

3. Intervention with the school may be necessary to educate staff about Early-Onset Bipolar Disorder and effective Behavioral Techniques to motivate cooperation and structure.

4. Ongoing Parent Training is recommended to provide education, support and instruction in behavioral methods with proven effectiveness. Continued contact with parents ensures prompt attention to potential "episodes" before escalation. In addition, parent training allows parent to follow therapist-directed consequences for misbehavior, and process parent emotions.

5. Educational Specialist may be recommended to provide assessment and treatment of learning disabilities and treatment of processing disabilities, especially necessary in visual and visual motor areas. Development and implementation of an effective and comprehensive Individualized Educational Plan will ensure ongoing education and appropriate reactions to symptoms. (Such as use of a one-on-one aide to foster the child's attention and reduce opportunities for conflict with staff and peers.)
